How to password protect content

To activate password protection on any content that you are the owner of:
  • Inside the content, click the ⋮ (3 dots) button, and choose “Add password protection”.
  • Enter your desired password (and save into a password manager app).
  • Confirm.
  • You’re all set! Anyone will now need to enter the password to view the content.

Can I see the password after I’ve set it?

It is not possible to see the password after setting – we recommend saving it into a password manager.

Can I set different passwords for different folders?

Yes, you can set a unique password for anything.

Does the password work for all sharing methods?

Yes – compatible with all sharing methods.

What happens if I move a file out of a password-protected folder?

Moving the content out will mean it behaves like any normal file in Fabric – it is no longer password protected. Moving the file out is only possible if the folder is currently unlocked.

What happens if I move a file into a password-protected folder?

Moving the content in will mean it becomes password protected via the folder – it is no longer visible inside Fabric normally. Moving the file into the folder is only possible if the folder is currently unlocked.

Can I password-protect a folder that’s already shared?

Yes.

What happens to subfolders inside a password-protected folder?

They will be password protected via the outer password-protected folder.

Does password protection affect search within my own workspace?

Yes, password-protected content is not discoverable via search whilst locked.

Do I need to enter the password every time?

If the content has re-locked, you will need to enter the password again.

Can I set a different password on different pieces of content?

Yes**.**

What happens if I forget the password?

There is currently no recovery mechanism for password-protected content! Write that password down in a password manager!

How do I change a password?

On an item or folder which has a password set on it, you can choose “Change password”, where you will be prompted to enter the current password first, before setting a new one.

How do I remove password protection?

On an item or folder which has a password set on it, you can choose “Unset password protection”, where you will be prompted to enter the current password first, before the password protection will be removed.
They remain shared, but others will need to enter the password to view the content.
